Bio How It Started... My mother loved musicals, but being hard of hearing could not understand the words. So as soon as I learned how to speak she would play the records of the show she wanted to see and I would lip synch all the songs. Then we’d go to movies or watch tv and I would repeat all the words…in silence. And I thought it would be great to be up there with a real voice and do all that stuff myself… A Little Detour... So I got myself educated and started acting and then started a business and was taking care of family so a bit of time went by… Along The Way... During my acting training and subsequent career, I've been fortunate to have met some wonderful acting teachers. And one of them, Peter Flint, said I think it’s time to find your real voice. And so I took the time to create the story of a hearing child in the world of the deaf. I revisited my childhood home where ringing telephones and doorbells lit up the house; watching TV required feats of concentration; and visits to my parents’ club for the deaf led me to an attempt at identity theft. These recollections are often funny, sometimes frustrating, potentially scary, intermittently sad and romantically…well…challenging. And in the end I found what I was looking for – my own voice. As a result - my play has been produced in NY, and I will soon be traveling to California to perform it for the Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival. |
And Now... I’m free to commit to my career
as an artist full time – and just in time to play all those
ladies that are the heart and soul of their families. I’ve
played sophisticated New York mothers with an edge and an Italian
mama with a heart and aunts and grandmas and the occasional ghost – all
substantial, grounded and worldly wise ladies. Have worked in film,
print, web and a bit of soap. Also finding it great fun coaching
acting and audition technique and learning from my students - as
they learn from me.
